Many people hear the term prophetic evangelism in church circles these days. They either want to know what it is or how to walk in it. Let me give you a brief summary.
Let’s break down each word and that will give us what prophetic evangelism is, then I can tell you how to walk in it everywhere you go.
In simple terms, the prophetic is hearing God’s voice. That could mean for yourself, others, or what God is doing for a person, in a room or an atmosphere. An example of this is Jesus talking with the woman at the well. In John 4, Jesus asks the woman to go tell her husband and when she denies that she has no husband, Jesus responds:
“You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true.” John 4:17-18
A personal example of this would be a time I was praying with a woman and felt God tell me she was called to be a nurse. And that there was a blockade from her doing so. She responded and said it has always been her dream to become a nurse but she didn’t feel that she would be good at it. She also didn’t know how the finances would work for her to go to school. God used me to encounter her, set her on her destiny and encouraged her that he would provide the finances necessary for her to pursue her calling. An amazing testimony.
Now, the second piece, evangelism. The definition of evangelism is the spreading of the Christian gospel (good news) by public preaching or personal witness. So, in short, clear terms evangelism is sharing God’s love for them.
That can be done through your testimony, telling someone about God’s love for them, praying for someone like I did above or countless other ways. And as you are telling them about the gospel, you are asking God to share a word or something with them. That is the prophetic piece.
This way, when you are done talking with them, they leave with the gospel and an encounter with Jesus. Whether they received healing, a word of knowledge, or just the presence of God in prayer, you have accomplished what it means to walk in Prophetic evangelism.
