This is talked about frequently in churches today. We need to be a disciple of Jesus. How do we disciple people like Jesus did? What is our role as disciples?
To me, the Bible makes it pretty straightforward. We are to follow the leading of Jesus and the Holy Spirit and bring the kingdom of God wherever we go.
Jesus was pretty clear when he told the disciples (Luke 9:1-6):
“And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to heal diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. 3 And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.[a] 4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.”
Jesus gives his disciples power and authority to cast out demons, heal the sick and tells them to preach the gospel. The gospel presentation must include signs and wonders to be complete. Don’t believe that; even Jesus needed to perform miracles to preach the gospel.
Second, what happened when Jesus died and ascended to heaven after his death? He said the helper (Holy Spirit) would come and equip them. Then Acts 2 happens and we see all 120 filled with the Holy Spirit and preach the gospel everywhere we go and the miracles followed. That is our assignment too.
What does that look like today? Realizing you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and following his lead throughout your day.
Are you at work and see someone in pain? Pray for their healing. Are you in an area of influence and feeling God sharing a prophetic word with you for someone or for a circumstance in the meeting? Share it. Do you discern a demon or demonic environment in your house or in the house of a friend? Take authority and cast it out. Preach the power of Jesus and the goodness of the gospel.
Once someone sees the love/power of Jesus, it is up to them to respond. Remember, the kindness of God leads them to repentance, not you forcing them to say a prayer. Introduce Jesus into the picture and then watch him work. Then trust the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts and led them to repentance. It’s that simple.
Share your testimonies with me! I’d love to hear them and encourage others to step out as well.
